A man who pleaded guilty for burning his aunt’s hut, accusing her of being a witch, will appear in court tomorrow for sentencing.
Mica Jacob, 37, of Domboshava, appeared before magistrate Ethel Chichera at the Harare Magistrates’ Courts accused of malicious damage to property.
The State alleges that on October 20, at around 2215 hours, Jacob went to his aunt’s homestead where he went to the kitchen hut and broke the wooden door.
His aunt allegedly panicked and woke up because of the sound of the door and asked who was breaking the door.
He then told her he wanted to burn the hut because she was a witch, accusing her of killing his unborn son.
After breaking the door, his aunt allegedly managed to walk out of the kitchen hut and went to the village head.
The State alleges that Jacob burnt the kitchen hut to ashes.
All the property, from cement, two plates, two iron axes, 2×20 litres plastic buckets and one hoe were damaged.
She allegedly reported the matter to the village head where she found shelter, leading to Jacob’s arrest.
The total value of the damaged property was US$400.
