A jealous ex-husband has been taken to court over starting a fire at his former wife's house.
Gray Nyamhuka, 26, appeared before magistrate Ethel Chichera at the Harare Magistrates’ Courts accused of destruction of property.
The complainant in this matter is Chipo Tambudzana, 23.
The State alleges that on December 25, 2023, at around 1900 hours, Tambudzana left home going for a Christmas party with her friends, together with her daughter.
It is alleged that when she came out, she locked the doors of the house.
On December 26, 2023 at around 0100 hours, Tambudzana was called by her neighbour, who told her that her house was burning but neighbours had managed to put off the fire.
She rushed home and noticed that only the veranda had burnt, opened the door and saw an empty bottle of petrol.
Nyamhuka, who is alleged of failing to accept that Tambudzana had moved on, was linked to this offence.
The total value of the damaged property is US$20.
Nyamhuka was ordered to deposit US$50 as bail.
