Two men, who allegedly threw stones and set a complainant’s house on fire, threatening to kill him, have been taken to court.
Bright Nyausopo, 33, and Brendon Chikwature, 26, both of Mbare, appeared before magistrate Fadzai Mutombeni at the Harare Magistrates’ Courts charged with malicious damage to property in aggravating circumstances.
They will appear in court on April 11.
The State, through prosecutor Ephraim Zinyandu, alleges that on March 2, at around 2300 hours, the accused together with one Justice Chihwai, who has been arrested in connection with the matter, went to Jerry James, who is also operating at Vito Complex in Mbare, who was parked at Liquor Palace in Stodart Complex.
The accused, who were armed with stones, surrounded James’ car, intending to assault him.
James then drove off at high speed and went to ZRP Stodart and reported the matter to the police.
While at the police station, James was informed by his wife that the accused were now at his house throwing stones at the front French door, shouting and threatened to kill him and they left.
James remained at the police station.
At around 0300 hours, the accused came back and splashed petrol on the curtain and coffee table and lit the house.
A sofa, five blankets and laundry basket were burnt in the process.
As a result, the value of the damaged property is US$1 000.
