A 29-year-old man, Edison Kazingizi, was arrested at Beitbridge Border Post on Thursday in connection with unlawful possession of drugs.
Police confirmed the arrest.
“On 26/10/23, police in Beitbridge arrested an MNH truck driver, Edison Kazingizi, 29, at Beitbridge Border Post in connection with unlawful possession of 48 X 100 ml of Benlyin Codeine, 50 X 100 mls Adyco Salterpyn and 50 X 100 ml Broncleer Cough Syrup,” reads the police statement on X.
The contraband was hidden in a truck which was carrying oil drums from South Africa.
In a similar case, three people were arrested in Masvingo on Saturday in connection with unlawful possession of drugs.
“On 28/10/23, detectives in Masvingo acted on received information and arrested Ammon Mataruse, 27, Tinashe Matore, 19, and Tatenda Mahachi, 30, in connection with unlawful possession of 15 twists of dagga, 3 X 100 ml Adcorsalterpyn, 3 X 100 ml Stilpane Cough Syrup, 3 X 100 ml Benlyin Cough Syrup and 3 X 100 ml Bron Cleer Cough Syrup.”
In Harare, police are investigating a case of infanticide in which a baby girl approximately two months was found dead at Shawasha Grounds, opposite Pioneer Cemetery, Mbare on Sunday.
The body was found in a carrier bag and was wrapped with a baby blanket.
Police urged anyone with information to report at any nearest police station.
