Two men, who allegedly assaulted a man to death accusing him of stealing six scaffolds, have been denied bail.

Dennis Tafirel Nyati, 32, of Chitungwiza and Stanley Muchimba, 32, Chinhamhora, Goromonzi, appeared before magistrate Dennis Mangosi accused of murder at the Harare Magistrates’ Courts.

The State, through prosecutor Zebediah Bofu, alleges that on October 28, 2023, Nyathi and Muchimba were informed that Emilington Machinga and the now-deceased, Blessing Zadzi, had stolen six scaffold poles at number 2823 E.D Mnangagwa Road, Glen Lorne, Harare.

On October 29, 2023, they allegedly caught Machinga in the yard where they interviewed him and he implicated Zadzi as his accomplice.

On the same date at around 2200 hours the two made follow-ups and apprehended Zadzi at Chigayo Inn, Takura Shops.

They assaulted him using an iron bar while his legs were pinned under concrete lifting weights.

They continued to assault him with a hose pipe all over his body and made him to roll down a steep mountain slope.

When they reached the foot of the mountain, they allegedly continued to assault and torture him with burning plastic papers under his feet.

After that, they took him to his father who resides in the same neighbourhood.

When he saw the condition of his son, the father refused to accept him.

It is alleged that when they noticed that Zadzi was now unconscious, they carried him and dumped him in a bushy area where he was later found dead.

Mangosi ordered the two to appear in court on November 15 and to apply for bail at the High Court.
