While the dust is yet to settle on the issue of recalls of Citizens Coalition for Change officials in the National Assembly, Senate and local authorities across the country, Sengezo Tshabangu has struck another blow on party leader Nelson Chamisa.

Tshabangu, who claims to be the party’s secretary-general, has written to the Ministry of Justice, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs requesting that the funds due to the CCC under the Political Parties (Finance) Act be disbursed into A CBZ account, whose details are given in the letter.

“I write to you in terms of Section 3(1) as read with section 3(3) of the Political Parties (Finance) Act to request the statutory allocation and disbursement of the funding that is due to the Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) political party, which participated in the 2023 Harmonised general election, in which it garnered sufficient seats to qualify for the funds.

Accordingly, we kindly request your good offices to process and disburse the allocation that is due tour party in terms of the Act.”

Tshabangu goes on to provide details of a CBZ, Borrowdale Branch account in the name of the Citizens Coalition for Change.

In an interview with Zim Now, Tshabangu confirmed that the communication in question did emerge from his office. “Yes, it originated from my office,” he said of the November 6 letter, whose return of service stamp confirming it was indeed received at the Justice, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs ministry on the same date.

This is not the first time Chamisa has lost similar battles. As the fight for the control of the Morgan Richard Tsvangirai House, the ceremonial home of the Movement for Democratic Change, Chamisa was out-maneouvred by current MDC-T leader Douglas Mwonzora and lost control of MRT House.

Mwonzora, after a gruelling court battle, also won the case involving funding that was due to the MDC Alliance under the Political Parties (Finance) Act.

It remains to be seen whether Chamisa, still smarting from the bolt of an election loss and subsequent recalls of elected as well as proportional representatives, he will put up a fight in the latest battle, which involves party funds.

Already, Tshabangu has won on recalls and by-elections have been called for in the constituencies, mainly in Bulawayo, of the recalled officials.
