A suspected armed robber was arrested after he and four accomplices had raided a house in New Zengeza 5, Chitungwiza where they stole US$8 240.
The police confirmed the arrest of Benjamin Chipiri, 36, at the scene after being apprehended by the victims’ neighbours.
Writing on X, police said Chipiri was with four other yet to be identified male suspects who were armed with an unidentified pistol, “… gained entry into the victims’ house where they attacked two victims before stealing US$180 cash among other valuables”.
The arrested suspect is said to have been left to guard the two victims while the other four suspects proceeded to the main bedroom where they attacked the third victim before stealing US$8 060 cash which was in a briefcase.
The four suspects abandoned Chipiri and ran into a Toyota Corolla motor vehicle and drove off, leading to the apprehension of Chipiri by the victims’ neighbours.
Police recovered two satchels containing an empty pistol magazine, Dell laptop, a solar light and a blood pressure check monitor.
Police are appealing for information that may lead to the arrest of the four suspects who are still at large.
