A Harare man has appeared in court after biting a police officer in an attempt to evade arrest from the officers.
Freddy Makuvise, 65, of Marlborough, appeared before magistrate Apolonia Marutya at the Harare Magistrate’s Courts accused of resisting a police officer.
The State, through prosecutor Zebediah Bofu, alleges that on December 6, 2023, at number 6 Adylinn Drive Marlbrough in Harare, ZRP member Osmong Manjoro was on duty together with assistant inspector Simba Mushurwa.
Mushurwa introduced himself together with Manjoro by producing their police identity cards and they advised Makuvise that he was under arrest on fraud allegations.
Makuvise denied the allegations and started moving away.
Mushurwa grabbed him on the waist and Makuvise became violent, screaming out loud.
Manjoro handcuffed one of Makuvise’s wrists but he kept on resisting and refused to get into the officers’ car.
Makuvise then grabbed the car door and he bit Manjoro on his right arm.
A witness to the incident assisted the police officers until they managed to subdue Makuvise, who will appear in court on December 12, for bail application.
