Reigning World Boxing Council (WBC) interim super-bantamweight champion Kudakwashe “Take Money” Chiwandire is in Chivhu town for a visit arranged to showcase the silverware she picked after defeating Mexican Zulina Munoz in a contest at the Harare International Conference Centre last week on Friday (October 14).

Chiwandire is from Manyene, a rural setting whose provincial town is Chivhu. Her manager, Clyde Musonda also hails from the same town.

Business reportedly came to a standstill as the champion, with police escort in tow, partook in a car rally whose procession wound up at Staera Combo, a business entity that hosted her for the day. Business couple Massey Chimbishi and her husband Emmanuel Saudombe are the owners of the business venture.

Reports from Chivhu say market places and touting were suspended as hordes of people rushed to catch a glimpse of “Take Money” and her trophy and many ended up joining the party.

Though Deputy Minister of Health and Child Welfare, Dr John Mangwiro (who is also the MP for Chikomba) was scheduled to be part of the programme, he could not make it owing to travel commitments. He has assisted the boxer in her preparations for the challenge of the championship.

Chiwandire has pledged to assist particularly the girl child in her rural home and has plans to set up a training facility as well as a saloon to that effect.

Meanwhile, WBC is yet to release the latest ratings which will show how far up the ladder “Take Money has climbed following the victory over Munoz. What is certain though is that she will mandatorily fight for the world gold against a winner between Yamileth Mercardo and Mariana Juarez. Their bout will now take part on November 29.
