A man, who was part of a team that posed as ZACC officers  in order to rob US$5 000, airtime recharge cards worth US$8 000 and two phones, has been denied bail.

Liberty Corbett Magomo, 42, Belvedere, appeared before magistrate Marehwanazvo Gofa, accused of armed robbery.

The State, through prosecutor Lancelot Mutsokoti, alleges that on November 27, 2023, Magomo and his four accomplices wanted to steal from the complainant, Nicole Alice Mutseura.

They went to her house driving a blue Toyota Wish and parked the car 200 meters from the house to avoid recognition.

Two of the accused persons went to Mutseura’s house where they introduced themselves as officers from the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission who had come to investigate an unspecified case, which they alleged had been committed by Mutseura’s husband, John Thomas at his workplace.

She called her husband, who was at work and he told her to ask for identity cards from the two and one of the accused produced an unidentified pistol and pointed it at Mutseura and forced her into the house.

They tied Mutseura's hands from the back.

They searched the house and stole an Iphone 13 Pro max, Samsung Galaxy A version, US$5 000 and buddie airtime recharge cards worth US$8 000.

Mutseura’s husband called one of his friends to go and check his family.

When he arrived, he met the accused persons coming out of the house and followed them to their getaway car.

He managed to capture the registration plates of the car.

It is alleged that on December 11, 2023, detectives from CID Homicide were informed of a car which had committed an offence at Corner Chinhoyi and Jason Moyo in the central business district.

They made surveillance, which led to the arrest of Magomo and recovery of their getaway car.

Magomo was ordered to appear in court on January 4 and advised to apply for bail at the High Court.
