Weekend in custody for Njowa family

The family of Shadreck Njowa was remanded in custody when they appeared in court on Saturday.

Shadreck Njowa is the former ZB Bank worker who allegedly was the brains behind a US$2,7 million robbery from the bank in January last year and had evaded police until his arrest on 20 October this year.

Njowa’s wife- Patricia Kanhukamwe, 47, and the couple’s three adult sons: Takawira Njowa, 22, Job Njowa, 25, and Washington Njowa 32 were charged with aiding and failing to provide information on a suspected criminal to the police.

All four denied the charges.

Magistrate Mrs Evelyn Mashavakure ordered them to report to court tomorrow for their bail application.

Prosecutor Thomas Chanakira said the four were a flight risk.

State allegations are that on October 20 this year, a team of detectives from CID Homicide in Harare arrested Shadreck Njowa at house number 35E, Willowvale Flats in Highfield, Harare.

Njowa’s arrest led to the apprehension of Paston Matengambiri and Nyasha Chitera wo were both fellow fugitive suspects in the ZB robbery.

The State alleges that the accused sheltered Shadreck Njowa, when they knew that he was wanted in connection with an armed robbery case.
