Music promoter Josh Hozheri has said that Bob Nyabinde’s biography which was due to be published on the late musician’s birthday on March 10, will come out as scheduled.

“We were meant to publish Nyabinde’s biography on 10 March which is his birthday. But sadly he passed on before that could be done. But I promise that the book will still be published on the same date in his honour,” said Hozheri while peaking at the burial of “The Headmaster” in Kwekwe on Boxing Day. Nyabinde was laid to rest next to his wife Margaret who passed on in 2007.

Hozheri also said as promoters they will keep supporting Nyabinde’s two sons, Agga and Albert who are both musicians. Other promoters present included Maradze of Odyssey in Kadoma, Chipaz, Mawhindo and Cossy Rules.

Musicians Derick Mpofu, Ammi Jamanda Mono Mukundu, Mwenje Matole, Terry bliss, Trevor the One also attended.

The literary scene was represented by Zimbabwe Writers Association chair Monica Cheru and poet Eunice Kapandura.

Public Service Labour and Social Welfare Minister, July Moyo who represented President Mnangagwa also pledged government support for the biography and praised Bob as a role model.

“He was a successful and humble musician who proved that you can be successful without using drugs. He proved that an artist can be respected within society without depending on drugs. This is indeed worth emulating for our upcoming artistes,” he said

Minister Moyo said the Government will ensure that his biography which was being published at the time of his death will be successfully launched.

National Arts Council director Mr Josia Kusena said the body had requested that Nyabinde be accorded a state-assisted funeral but festive season closures have tied up the application.

But all the same, the funds will be channelled towards the family once they are released,” said Kusena.

Agga Nyabinde said his father was a multi-talented man who ended with music out of many avenues.

“He was a footballer who once played for Ziscosteel but had to quit after injuring a ligament. He holds a CAF coaching certificate. He was a painter and a cartoonist who once drew cartoons for The Chronicle. He was also a carpenter who repaired guitars and other stuff,” he said.

Nyabinde was born in Mutare Manicaland province on 10 March 1955 and moved to Kwekwe to teach. After the death of his wife, Bob turned to music full time as it was now a more lucrative for the single father.

Late diagnosed diabetes and hypertension led to health complications including impaired vision and a stroke which ended Bob’s thriving music career.
