Gulez Garden in Kwekwe CBD will play host to the Bob Nyabinde Festival on March 9, 2024 the night before the memorial.
The event is being organised by veteran Zimbabwean music promoter, Josphat “Josh” Hozheri.
In an interview with Zim Now, Hozheri said he worked well with the late legendary musician hence the need to celebrate him.
“We found it befitting to honour Bob Nyabinde because of what he went through. Losing his eyesight while on stage and then suffering a stroke. I also had worked with him for over 12 years and he had become a permanent feature at our Annual Winter Jazz Festival. He was a very clean artist, no scandals and an exemplary legend needs to be celebrated.”
Hozheri confirmed that the event is going to be celebrated every year to honour the legend.
“It is going to be an annual festival and we will grow it in the City of Kwekwe where he was buried.
“Bob’s departure can only inspire us. He left us with his music and now a biography and the first of its kind. I’m proud to be part of this historic event. His music has staying power and we shall have it into eternity,” he said.
The Nyabinde boys, Agga and Albert will be on rotation on stage together with Treva The One, Sam Mataure, Steve Makoni, Victor Kunonga, Kireni Zulu, Mono Mukundu, Terry Bliss and Bantuman.
Agga and Albert are excited to be performing on the day in their hometown.
“We are delighted to be performing in our hometown. This is a milestone event for us, and we know the Headmaster had always wanted this, so we shall give it all we have got.
“We are deeply humbled by this gesture, and we hope and pray that the Almighty gives us the required strength, expertise and wisdom to carry forward his work.
“It won’t be easy since we were so used to being by The Headmaster’s side, we shall do our best,” they said.
Bob Nyabinde died on December 23, 2023 after suffering a stroke and having lost his eye sight .
