A Harare man, who raped the owner of a bar he used to frequent as a customer after giving her a lift, has been taken to court.
Respect Muto, 42, of Tynald North, appeared before magistrate Standford Mambanje charged with rape.
The complainant in this matter is Netsai Mugari, aged 38 and residing at 2959 Tynwald North, Harare.
The State, through prosecutor Anesu Chirenje, alleges that in October 2023, Muto gave the complainant a lift and she agreed since he was one of her customers.
Muto then allegedly told the complainant that he wanted to change his clothes first since they were wet due to the rains then he would go with the complainant to her house.
Muto parked his car in the yard and called the complainant in, he then went to his bedroom where he changed his clothes and told the complainant that he had run out of fuel so he was no longer able to proceed to her house.
She allegedly begged Muto to drive to a nearby filing station but he told her that the car could not start.
It is alleged that Muto then asked the complainant to sleep in his daughter's room.
At around 2330 hours, the complainant woke up and saw Muto caressing her body.
The State alleges that Muto then grabbed the complainant and pinned her on the bed and raped her.
The complainant tried to scream for help but Muts closed her mouth with his hand, after the act, the complainant sat on the bed while Muto slept on the same bed.
After about thirty minutes, Muto woke up and started fondling the complainant's breasts and touched her private part.
The complainant crossed her legs but Muto forcibly opened them and allegedly raped her.
After the act, the complainant slept on the bed and Muto slept beside her.
In the morning at around 0500 hours, Muto woke up touched the complainant's private part and raped her.
Afterwards, Muto allegedly drove the complainant to her house.
The matter was later reported to the police and Muto was arrested.
Muto will appear in court on January 29, for trial date.
