President Emmerson Mnangagwa has re-appointed Justice Priscilla Chigumba as the Chairperson of the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission for a fresh six-year term, starting February 1, 2024.

This was announced by Chief Secretary to the President and Cabinet Dr Martin Rushwaya,

Justice Chigumba’s journey in the legal arena began with her law degree obtained in the United Kingdom. In 1994, she embarked on her legal career at Gollop and Blank law firm, honing her skills for six years before venturing into the corporate world as an assistant company secretary at PG Industries. She then established her own legal practice.

Justice Chigumba transitioned to the Ministry of Justice, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs in 2004, starting as a magistrate and rising through the ranks, serving as both a resident and provincial magistrate before being seconded to the Office of the Chief Justice as a senior professional research assistant.

Since her initial appointment to ZEC in 2018, Justice Chigumba has steered ZEC through several crucial electoral events, including the 2018 general elections and the 2022 by-elections.

Both the 2018 and 2023 general elections have been marred by allegations of irregularities which compromised the intergrity of the polls and the outcome.
