Opposition Citizens Coalition for Change spokesperson, Promise Mkwananzi, has accused Kuwadzana East legislator, Chalton Hwende of lying that he had a two-hour conversation with former party leader Nelson Chamisa.
Chamisa dumped the party two weeks ago, claiming it had been infiltrated, among other reasons. He is yet to announce the way forward.
But his MPs and councillors have a hard decision to make, whether to resign and follow Chamisa or remain under Sengezo Tshabangu, who assumed full control of the party after claiming the party’s interim Secretary General post
Tshabangu has been recalling elected members of the party aligned to Chamisa, claiming they ceased to be CCC members.
On Thursday, Hwende claimed that he had a conversation with Chamisa, who told him that he would not rejoin CCC. He added that he would consult his constituents on the way forward.
“On Tuesday, I had a 2 hr conversation with President Nelson Chamisa and we discussed his resignation statement. He is clear that he will never return to the CCC, and he will make an announcement on his next move in the near future. I agree with his decision. Tomorrow, I will begin a series of consultations with the people of Kuwadzana East so that I can be guided on the next move. President Chamisa remains our best foot forward to bring change in this country," he posted on X.
But Mkwananzi sparked controversy when he accused Hwende of lying about speaking to Chamisa.
“There is a former senior official and current member of parliament who is going around lying to people each time he has a meeting that he spoke to President Nelson Chamisa for two hours,” he said.
Hwende, together with senior party officials, Welshman Ncube and Tendai Biti, have been accused of sponsoring Tshabangu.
The disputed SG recently stated publicly that he was working with the three members.
Interestingly, Mkwananzi is also being accused of being a State security agent. Journalist Hopewell Chin’ono recently said Mkwananzi is one of the reasons why Chamisa left CCC.
