Jethro “Chemmie” Hunidzarira has been appointed as Zifa’s new Technical Director.

Speaking at a media event on the occasion of the unveiling of the Technical Director today at Milton Park, Hunidzarira promised to develop Zimbabwean football from the grassroots.

“We want to introduce many children to play football, kids from grassroots will be promoted to youth football.

He says he is aiming to introduce qualified coaches to youth academies.

“We want youth football being run by qualified coaches.

“Our focus with youth football is competition with development,” he said.

Hunidzarira has plans of introducing a Zifa national academy where elite youths will be developed by elite coaches.

He is hoping to see the country’s football ranking in the top 5 position in the region, top 25 position in Africa and top 50 in the world.

The Normalisation Committee chose him to be the Zifa Technical Director because of his CAF A qualification.

Hunidzarira, who was part of the trailblazing Zimbabwe Saints title-winning side in 1988, replaces Wilson Mutekede, who was sacked by the Normalisation Committee.

Hunidzarira did much of his coaching in Botswana where he has been based for the last 30 years.
