Sprinter, Lawyer, Coach: Gerren Muwishi, known as “Bhizah”, wears many hats with remarkable dedication. Inspired by athletic giants like Usain Bolt and Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce, this Zimbabwean sprinter chases his passion on the track while excelling off it as a lawyer and coach.

From Kwekwe to the World Stage: Born in Midlands and raised in Zvishavane, Bhizah is the eldest of five brothers. He graduated from St. Patrick’s High School in Gweru and earned both undergraduate and master’s degrees in Law from the University of Zimbabwe.

Driven by Passion: Despite his legal background, Bhizah’s heart lies in athletics. He specializes in short sprints, currently focusing on the 400m, and coaches young athletes at MWC Sport. The sport's sheer love fuels his drive, evident in his response to doubters: “People mock me, saying I love track more than anything. Would you leave the love of your life?”

Overcoming Challenges: Bhizah’s journey hasn't been smooth. Financial constraints often limit his participation in international competitions, hindering his path to quicker times. Partnerships with brands and organizations help ease the burden, but the struggle remains real.

Track Record of Success: Despite the challenges, Bhizah has achieved notable feats. He competed in two World Student Games, qualified for the World Relays and Africa Senior Champs, and became the 2023 National Champion in the 400m.

Coaching: Giving Back and Growing: Bhizah views coaching as a way to give back to the community and help young athletes reach their full potential, something he lacked during his early days. He even trains alongside his students, creating a mutually beneficial dynamic.

Beyond the Track: Bhizah balances his athletic pursuits with a legal career. Having completed his Masters in Commercial Law, he’s navigating how to integrate it into his daily life.

Words of Encouragement: To aspiring athletes, Bhizah emphasises hard work: “Put in the work to make it work. Track demands commitment, but stay the course, and you’ll shine.”
