A 20-year-old man, Tatenda Mudziwedare has been sentenced to seven years in prison by the magistrates’ court in Rusape for the attempted murder of a seven-year-old boy in Headlands.
The accused revealed that the attack on the child was an instruction by a businessman at Shenjere Business Centre, to bring a human head for ritual use, leading to the accused grabbing the Grade One pupil and strangling him before stopping after seeing some approaching villagers.
In a statement, the National Prosecuting Authority said that the boy, who was let go by the accused, narrated the encounter to his mother, leading to Mudziwedare’s arrest.
“He managed to grab the complainant who is a seven-year-old Grade One pupil and squeezed the minor’s neck using both hands. The accused person only stopped after he saw some villagers approaching at a distance.”
“The complainant narrated his ordeal to his mother who reported the matter to the police, leading to the accused person’s arrest. The accused person pleaded guilty to the charge and was sentenced to seven years in prison, of which three years were suspended,” the NPA added.
