Cop in court for raping his former lover

A police officer stationed at Chikurubi Support Unit, has been arraigned before the courts accused of racing his former lover.

Nisbert Mutedza, 31, of New Mabvuku, appeared before magistrate Stanford Mambanje at the Harare Magistrates’ Courts charged with rape.

He will appear in court on March 22, for his trial date.

The complainant is a 24-year-old woman.

The State, through prosecutor Lancelot Mutsokoti, alleges that on December 22, 2021, at around 1900 hours, Mutedza met the complainant who was at her sister’s neighbour’s house and accompanied her to where she lived.

On the way, Mutedza allegedly took the complainant’s phone, while they were outside the gate at the complainant’s house. When she asked for her phone back, Mutedza refused.

It is alleged that Mutedza then pulled the ight that the complainant was wearing and tore it. He pushed her to the ground and raped her.

After the act, he gave the complainant her phone back and went away.

The complainant took a cloth, which was on washing line, covered herself and went into the house.

The complainant became pregnant and disclosed the matter to her grandmother, but did not file a police report.
