Development organisation, Prevail Group International, has begun drilling much-needed boreholes in Plumtree aimed at improving access to clean water in the country’s western border town.
Due to the urgency of the water situation in Plumtree, the company worked through the recent Easter holiday weekend to ensure these boreholes are installed as swiftly as possible.
Residents, who have been struggling with water shortages, can expect some welcome relief once the boreholes are operational.
While Zimbabwe is facing crippling electricity outages and the government looking for alternative energy sources, Prevail Group, through its subsidiary, Zimbabwe Solar Energy Company, is also launching a pilot solar project in Harare’s Glen View suburb.
The project aims to generate solar power from rooftops and feed it into the national grid.
Residents who participate in the project will benefit from standard contracts that ensure a return on investment.
PGI chairperson, Paul Tungwarara, last week said the project is expected to create local employment opportunities and alleviate load-shedding in the area.
“This project is a Presidential Solar Scheme that is going to be done under ZISEC which is going to be involved together with Prevail Group,” he said.
“We are going to generate solar from the rooftops and put the electricity into the grid and eradicate load-shedding in the specific areas where we are installing the solar system.
“The project will also create local employment opportunities, with residents being trained to install the solar panels.
“Landlords who participate will receive a token of appreciation for their contribution to generating electricity for the national grid.”
