This weekend’s Premier Soccer League action promises to be electrifying, with the Bulawayo derby between Highlanders and Chicken Inn taking centre stage.

Highlanders, currently top the table with 14 points and an undefeated record, will face off against their local rivals Chicken Inn at Barbourfields Stadium on Sunday.

With the Gamecocks, trailing behind with nine points, are determined to cause an upset.

Despite Highlanders’ strong start, history seems to favour Chicken Inn. The Gamecocks have a knack for defeating Highlanders at home, and their coach, Joey Antipas, is confident his team can be the first to stop the league leaders’ winning streak.

However, Highlanders shouldn't be underestimated. Their striking duo of Brighton Ncube and Lynoth Chikuhwa, both former Chicken Inn players themselves, have found their scoring touch, contributing a combined seven goals.

Chicken Inn’s goalkeeper, Bernard Donovan, and captain, Xolani Ndlovu, expressed their team’s unwavering determination to secure a win. They are banking on their experience in these high-pressure derby matches.

While Highlanders are enjoying a dream start to the season, head coach Kelvin Kaindu remains cautious. He emphasised the importance of maintaining focus and avoiding complacency, highlighting the need for consistency to achieve their ultimate goal.

The Premier Soccer League weekend kicks off on Saturday with several exciting matchups, including FC Platinum facing Bikita Minerals, ZPC Kariba battling Arenel Movers, and Green Fuel hosting Herentals.

Sunday promises another exciting day of football. Dynamos will take on TelOne, Manica Diamonds will clash with CAPS United, Bulawayo Chiefs will face the in-form Simba Bhora, and the final match will see Hwange host the reigning champions, Ngezi Platinum Stars.
