Names of 11 Beatrice accident released

Eleven of the 16 victims of the Beatrice road accident involving a Sprinter kombi and truck along the Harare-Masvingo Highway on Friday have been identified.

Most of the bodies are expected to be collected by their relatives today.

The accident victims have been identified as Joyce Mudzinzwa aged 44 of Epworth; Kelly Kwenda, 3, of Epworth; Elisha Jack, 6, of Epworth; Elijah Jack Tawananyasha, 5, of Epworth; Ezra Jack, an infant aged one year of Epworth; 31-year-old Prudence Mahachi of Epworth; Talent Rangwa, 23, of Epworth; Leeroy Kido, 8, of Epworth; Lloyd Kido, 4, of Epworth; Elmod Ncube,18, of Epworth and Decision Maizivei, 26, from Buhera.

The remaining five victims are yet to be identified by their next of kin.

14 of the bodies are at Chivhu General Hospital while the other two are at Chitungwiza Central Hospital.

Mashonaland East Acting Director Local Government Services, Maxwell Mabhuro was in Chivhu this Saturday, leading all necessary processes.

“We have been here since morning seized with this matter and we can confirm we have identified all the bodies with 11 having their relatives notified,” he said.

A memorial service for the victims is expected to be held at Chivhu Hospital today.

15 of the victims died on the spot, while one died at Chitungwiza Central Hospital, while 29 others were injured.
