Castle Tankard 2024 gallops into action with stellar lineup

The 64th edition of the Castle Tankard promises a day of high-octane entertainment on May 11th, 2024, at Borrowdale Racecourse.

This year's event goes beyond the prestigious horse race, transforming Borrowdale into a vibrant hub buzzing with music and festivities.

This year marks over six decades of partnership between Delta Corporation's Castle Lager and the Mashonaland Turf Club. To commemorate this longstanding tradition, Delta has upped the stakes, offering a cool US$50,000 for the event.

The main event, the Castle Tankard horse race, will see 12 runners vying for the coveted winner's prize of US$25,000. All eyes will be on defending champion Ideal View, but a new challenger has emerged – Raffles – who is heavily favored to steal the show this year.

Trainers Gavin Macleod, Debra Swanson, Army Parham, and Bridget Stidolph are confident their horses are in peak condition and ready to claim the title. The atmosphere is sure to be electric with anticipation as these thoroughbred athletes thunder down the track.

Adding to the excitement is a stellar lineup of Zimbabwean music icons. The legendary Alick Macheso will headline the event, ensuring the dance floor is packed throughout the day.

Joining him will be dancehall sensation Freeman, the energetic Bling 4 crew, and the talented Master H. Local favorites, DJs Fantan and Levels from Chilspot, will be on the decks to keep the party going.
