The Aquatic Complex in Chitungwiza is gearing up to host the International Handball Federation Zone VI Under 18 and Under 20 tournament, set to take place from May 6-12, 2024.
The eight-nation competition will bring together top young handball players from across the region for a thrilling week of intense matches, showcasing their incredible talent, skill, teamwork, and sportsmanship that define the sport of handball.
In an interview with Zim Now, Zimbabwe Handball Federation secretary-general, Edson Chirowodza said Team Zimbabwe is more than prepared for the tournament.
"Team Zimbabwe is ready and geared for the games. We have had several training camps. Currently, the team is in camp.
"The final 14 has been named for both U18 youth and U20 junior male teams."
The tournament is held after every two years for both males and females. This year, Zimbabwe is hosting males, and next year, it will be women teams.
The tournament is also being used as a qualifying event for the World Junior and Youth Championship.
Zimbabwe U20 won the previous edition of the tournament while Zambia won the U18 category.
Countries that are participating at the tournament include hosts Zimbabwe, Lesotho, Mozambique, South Africa, Zambia, Malawi, Namibia, and Swaziland.
