Former Deputy Ambassador of the United States in Sweden, Ukraine and Cyprus, Pamela Marie Tremont, was last week voted as the new American ambassador to Zimbabwe by the country’s Senate.

This comes as the USA had not have an ambassador to Zimbabwe since Brian Nichols in 2021 following his departure to become Assistant Secretary of State for Western Hemisphere Affairs, the embassy left under the guide of Charge d’Affaires Elanie M. French.

In the Senate Press Gallery, the country’s Upper House confirmed the vote that saw the appointment of Tremont, who comes with experience from similar duties as well as relevant academia for the post.

The USA and Zimbabwe recently cooled frosty relations with relaxation of US embargoes on Zimbabwe, allowing the two countries to start trade, among other economic activities.
