Vulture head for sale in Africa Unity Square

Michael Mashiri

You can sell anything, once you identify a market for it.

That seems to be the principle that was guiding  four men who intended to flog off a vulture's head in Africa Unity Square

Tafadzwa Mushamba, 41, Zvenyika Nyamasoka, 50, Kudakwashe Nyikadzino, 47, and Tinashe Chigwida, 40, appeared before magistrate Apollonia Marutya at the Harare Magistrates' Courts facing unlawful possession of a vulture head.

The court was informed through prosecutor Thomas Chanakira, that on July 5, 2024, detectives from CID Minerals, Flora and Fauna Unit, were informed that the accused had a vulture's head in Africa Unit Square and wanted to sell the head to an unknown buyer.

They were given the description of the accused.

The detectives went to Africa Unit Square, Harare and put the area on surveillance at the same time locating the people with the given description.

At around 1235 hours, they identified the four who were seated at the northern side inside Africa Unit Square leading to their arrest.

It is the state's case that the four were found in possession of a vulture head which is a trophy of a specially protected animal.

They were remanded in custody.
