Airlink introduces daily Durban-Harare flights

Airlink has said that it will be launching daily flights on the Durban-Harare route in early August.

“We are going daily on the route in response to our customers’ positive reaction to the convenience and great value of our direct service on this route,” said Airlink CEO and managing director, Rodger Foster.

Foster said demand on the route Durban-Harare route is pushed by various factors.

“It is an appealing combination that promotes business, trade, tourism, and travel between the two key cities and enhances the economic competitiveness of the regions they support.”

The additional flights will depart from King Shaka International Airport at 10.30am, arriving at Robert Mugabe International Airport at 12.40pm before taking off for the return leg at 1.20pm and landing in Durban at 3.35pm.

Zimbabwe is seeing increased traffic after Chinese funded upgrading of its international airports with Airbus recently pointing out the viability of a London-Harare direct operation.

Cemair introduced Harare-Joburg flights this past May. In March Zimbabwe granted Foreign Operator Permits to Zambia Airways and Eswatini Air to fly to the region while Air Tanzania says they will be introducing direct cargo service to Harare to facilitate trade between the two countries.

Airlink operates the route with 44-seat Embraer E140 regional jets and offers a 20kg free economy class checked-in luggage allowance plus a 15kg sporting equipment allowance.
