Derby County Releases Chirewa for Afcon Qualifiers

Derby County has confirmed Tawanda Chirewa's release for Zimbabwe's 2025 Afcon Qualifiers matches.

The Warriors will face Kenya on September 6 and host Cameroon on September 10, with both games relocated to Nelson Mandela Stadium in Kampala, Uganda, due to venue unavailability in Kenya and Zimbabwe.

Chirewa, who signed a season-long loan deal with Derby from Wolves last week, has been granted permission to travel for the matches.

The English Championship club announced: "Tawanda Chirewa, our recent signing, has been selected for Zimbabwe's national team for their upcoming AFCON qualifiers."

“Chirewa will represent Zimbabwe in Group J, competing against Kenya, Cameroon, and Namibia.”

With two international caps under his belt since debuting against Lesotho in July 2024, Chirewa will fly to straight Kampala, Uganda to join his Zimbabwean teammates.
