Power Giants Africa Chief Executive Officer and Transmission Director, Dr. Edzai Kachirekwa, landed the Super Platinum Award at the Professional Excellence Awards hosted by the Zimbabwe CEOs Network in Harare on Thursday night.
Speaking on the sidelines of the event, Dr. Kachirekwa said, "Today I am celebrating 26 years in the field of electrical engineering and Power Giants Africa is dominating in most areas. It was God who raised me from nothing. I would like to particularly thank Prophet Emmanuel Makandiwa and his wife, Ruth as well as Mr Elias Hwenga and his wife for their mentorship."
The event organisers also spoke glowingly about Dr Kachirekwa.
"Your dedication and exceptional contributions have not gone unnoticed, and it is truly an honour to recognise your outstanding achievements in your industry. Your commitment to excellence is an inspiration to us all. Congratulations on your well-deserved award for The Professional Excellence Awards," reads part of the organisers' statement.
Dr. Kachirekwa is renowned for his business acumen and entrepreneurship skills after having risen from destitution on the streets of Harare into becoming a towering figure in the electrical engineering field in Zimbabwe and beyond. His journey to the top, though, has not been a stroll in the park.
He was recently honoured in neighbouring Zambia for his contributions to humanity in the energy and power sector in the region and was also bestowed with the Excellent Strategic Business Leader Award by the Zimbabwe Institute of Strategic Thinking.
He then was selected among Africa's 100 Most Influential Persons for his contribution to the continent’s development at an event organised by the Business Executive Media Group, a regional publishing, special events organising, public policy advocacy and private enterprise promotion and facilitation group of companies headquartered in Accra, Ghana.
Dr Kachirekwa has been a recipient of many other awards over the years, including the Distinguished Clean Energy Champion Award (Zimbabwe Community Trailblazers Awards 2023), the Top Five Innovators of The Year 2023 Award, the Leading Client Engagement Professional who personifies Impeccable Professional Standards Award.
He is also the National Secretary for the Entrepreneurs Network of Zimbabwe, organisers of the Annual National Iconic Entrepreneurs Awards among many other notable achievements.
Just this week, Dr Kachirekwa's Power Giants Africa, through its Kenyan subsidiary, Cobin Power Giants Kenya, embarked on the multi-million-dollar and 100MW Kibwezi Solar Park project in the east African country, in perhaps one of the greatest strides by a firm with Zimbabwean roots in that region.
The project is supported by Power Giants GNEE - which is a strategic partnership between Power Giants and GNEE China, one of Southern Africa's leading firms in the provision of renewable energy infrastructure solutions which has a presence in 17 African countries.
Power Giants Africa also recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding for the construction of another solar power plant in Zimbabwe.
