A 15-year-old boy of Unidale New Stands, Haticliffe Extension, has appeared at the Harare Magistrates' Courts on charges of motor vehicle theft.
He was released into the custody of his father and is scheduled to reappear in court on January 30, 2025.
The State alleges that on November 1, the teen and an accomplice, Masimba Mpisaunga (currently at large), stole a silver Toyota Aqua, registration number AFV9356, from the Sam Levy Pro Gym car park in Borrowdale, Harare.
The complainant reportedly left the vehicle parked with the keys in the door lock and windows up before entering the gym, leaving the car unattended. Kamoto and his accomplice allegedly opened the car, started the engine, and drove off.
The theft was discovered by the car’s owner, who alerted security personnel at Sam Levy Village. CCTV footage captured the two accused in the act, leading to a report filed with the ZRP Borrowdale.
Six days later, on November 7, the teen was involved in a road accident while driving the stolen vehicle and was subsequently apprehended.
The car, valued at US$8 000, was recovered, and the matter was transferred to CID VTS Harare for further investigation.
