A man allegedly caught on video offering a bribe to police officers has been taken to court. Tinashe Madzima, 33, appeared at the Harare Magistrates' Court on bribery charges and was remanded to Monday for a bail hearing.

The State alleges that on November 2, two police officers, James Chifamba and Trymore Mukunza, were stationed at the Mabvuku Turn-off to enforce traffic laws. Madzima, driving a commuter omnibus, was reportedly stopped by the officers and complied with their request to pull over.

According to the court, Madzima exited his vehicle, approached the officers, and handed them an undisclosed amount of money as a bribe. The alleged transaction was recorded by an unknown individual and circulated on social media, where it quickly went viral.

Authorities followed up on the video, leading to Madzima’s arrest.
