A 41-year-old Harare man, Vhurumu Mutero, has been hauled before the Harare Magistrates' Courts facing allegations of stealing US$125 000 meant for the purchase of a vehicle and household items.

Mutero is charged with theft of trust property and was granted bail of US$300. He is set to return to court on January 14, 2025.

According to prosecutor Rufaro Chonzi, the complainant entrusted Mutero with US$125 000 between February and July this year to procure a Toyota single cab and various household and office items. The purchases were to include four double-door refrigerators, four 65-inch television sets, a washing machine, sets of leather sofas, dining tables, bed sets, deep freezers, office furniture, and other items, all sourced from South Africa.

However, Mutero allegedly failed to fulfill the arrangement and converted the funds to his own use, resulting in the complainant losing the full amount.
