Bulawayo police have arrested a 20-year-old man for unlawful possession of stolen copper cables, as authorities intensify efforts to curb infrastructure vandalism in the city.

Hamani Qhawe Ndebele was apprehended on the night of February 23, 2025, around 11:00 PM, during a routine police patrol.

Officers found him in a secluded, bushy area near New Lobengula, where he was burning copper cables, presumably to strip them for resale.

Police recovered 31.5 kilograms of copper cables from Ndebele, who is now in custody.

Authorities have launched further investigations to determine the source of the stolen materials and whether he was part of a larger syndicate.
