Bindura was thrown into chaos on 26 August 2025 when a mob clashed with police officers in a dramatic attempt to block the arrest of a suspected drug peddler.
The confrontation erupted after detectives nabbed Kudzai Chisasa for possession of dagga. As he was being taken into custody, about ten accomplices pounced, wrestling with officers in a brazen bid to free him.
Police eventually subdued the mob and confirmed that all 10 people involved will face the courts. In a statement the police warned the public against such behavior, saying it will not be tolerated.
Despite the formation of a National Drug Abuse Taskforce and nationwide raids and arrests, Zimbabwe’s drug crisis is still escalating, with crystal meth (“mutoriro”), dagga, and illicit cough syrups flooding communities and fueling crime and mental health breakdowns.
