Two City of Harare Workers Die on Duty

The City of Harare is mourning the loss of two of its employees, Mupinga Peter ,41, and Mangombe Stephen ,61, who died while on duty at the Glen View sewer treatment plant on the morning of 28 August.

Authorities, including the Zimbabwe Republic Police, the National Social Security Authority, and officials from the City of Harare, have since launched investigations into the circumstances surrounding the tragedy.

In a statement, the City of Harare expressed its deepest condolences to the families of the deceased and pledged to establish the cause of the incident.

Mayor Jacob Mafume confirmed the deaths, describing the incident as a devastating loss to both the council and the city’s residents. “The council was rocked by the death of two of our very own colleagues while they were at work, serving our people. Death is never easy,” he said. 

Mafume also conveyed his heartfelt condolences to the families, friends, and colleagues of the two workers, assuring them that the city stands with them during this difficult time.

The mayor further revealed that he had ordered an investigation into the tragic event, emphasising that the findings would help improve workplace safety. “The findings will enable us to make our working environment safe,” he said.

The exact cause of death has not yet been revealed, but officials have assured residents and employees that corrective measures will be taken once investigations are complete.
