Zimbabwe paid dearly for their failure to participate in Fifa-sanctioned matches, with the men’s national football team, the Warriors now ranked number 125 in the world’s latest rankings released by Fifa today.

The Warriors last participated in the 2021 Afcon tournament in Cameroon when they dropped one place on the Fifa/Coca-Cola World Rankings.

This drop in rankings will also affect player transfers to better leagues in the world.

Zimbabwe cannot participate in any Fifa-sanctioned matches after the country was suspended by the world football mother body.

The suspension came after the Sports and Recreation Commission removed the national football association’s executive committee led by Felton Kamambo from office.

Former Warriors goalkeeper George Chigova, who is on the books of South African premier league side Supersport United, called on the SRC and Zifa to resolve their differences as this was affecting players.

“I got an opportunity to play in South Africa after impressing during the 2013 Chan finals.

“So, with the country suspended, it means no one is in a position to showcase themselves.

“Many of us here in South Africa came via these tournaments. It’s the only possible breakthrough that footballers back home are waiting for.

“Unfortunately, under these circumstances, it’s very hard to get such opportunities. The future of Zimbabwean football is seriously under threat,” Chigova said.
