Popular Harare side Dynamos has parted ways with over a dozen players in a massive clear-out as new coach Hebert Maruwa builds a new squad ahead of the 2023 season.

The bulk of DeMbare’s foreign contingent as well as captain Partson Jaure and his deputy Godknows Murwira were swept away in the massive clear-out which could also not spare room for youngsters Luke Musikiri, Claivert Tshuma and Stephen Chatikobo, who joined Dynamos from Prince Edward Academy and have reverted back to the academy.

The contracts of seven of the players shown the exit door expired on December 31, together with that of ex-coach Tonderai Ndiraya, who has since joined Premier League debutants Simba Bhora.

Ghanaian defender Sylvester Appiah, Cameroonian Albert Eonde, Nigerian Alex Orotomal, Ralph Kawondera and Keith Murera could also not get contract extensions.

Midfielder Trevor Mavhunga, whose contract also expired at the weekend, decided to opt out to pursue fortunes elsewhere.

Dynamos spokesperson Tinashe Farawo said in a statement that the club was in discussions with the aim of mutual separation with other players whose contracts still subsist such as Evans Katema and Martin Ofori.

“The club had also offered Trevor Mavhunga an improved new contract, but the player’s handlers advised that Trevor is now heading for a new home.

“Meanwhile, all our stakeholders are hereby notified that the club is almost through with the recruitment of new players to beef up our 2023 squad and a formal announcement will be made in due course,” he added.

“The management is always guided by what the technical team wants. As you know we have a new technical team and they have recommended to the management which players that they want to work with in the coming season.

“Remember they had some training sessions a few weeks back and that’s when they saw what they wanted to see in the players.

For Jaure, it must have been a very sad ending to a career that blossomed at the Glamour Boys and took him to South Africa’s Pretoria University before stints with Ngezi Platinum Stars, Buildcon of Zambia and Manica Diamonds.

Jaure retraced his steps back to DeMbare in 2020 and claimed the captain’s armband. The defender has since been asked to surrender the club’s assets in his possession, including the captain’s vehicle provided by sponsors Sakunda Holdings.

On foreign players, Farawo said, they must have something special that is not found in local players.

“They must bring an additional dimension to the way the team plays. If that is not there, then there is no reason for hiring them. That’s the thrust we are taking as Dynamos,” said Farawo.

The DeMbare management were not happy that the team, despite the massive investments done in the last three years, through the lucrative sponsorship packages from Gold Leaf Tobacco and Sakunda Holdings, the Glamour Boys could still not land the title, finishing third and trailing eventual winners FC Platinum by a massive 17 points. At some point last season, Dynamos led Pure Platinum Play by 10 points.

Meanwhile, the Harare side are scheduled to travel to Malawi on a pre-season trip at the invitation of Nyasa big Bullets, which is coached by Kalisto Pasuwa, a DeMbare legend.
