Gutu Woman Arrested for Allegedly Killing Newborn

 

A 28-year-old woman from Gutu in Masvingo Province, Angeline Dzikorehondo, has been arrested for allegedly killing her newborn baby boy shortly after giving birth.

According to a statement from the Zimbabwe Republic Police, the incident occurred in Mafusire Village, Mazuru. Dzikorehondo is accused of giving birth, strangling the infant, placing the body in a sack, and dumping it in a nearby bushy area.

She was arrested on Saturday, and police say investigations are ongoing.

In a separate incident in Manicaland Province, police in Nyazura arrested 34-year-old Maria Munetsi Zhuwaki for allegedly concealing a birth. According to police reports, Zhuwaki gave birth to a stillborn baby boy on 5 November 2025. 

She reportedly placed the body in a bucket before burying it in a shallow grave in a bushy area near Goneso Village.

The ZRP has urged members of the public to seek help when facing difficulties related to pregnancy or childbirth and to report such cases immediately.
