Chegutu Man Jailed 24 Months for Stealing Goods Worth US$190

 

A 31-year-old Chegutu resident, Prince Mugadzawethu, has been sentenced to 24 months’ imprisonment by the Chegutu Magistrates’ Court after being convicted of stealing property valued at US$190 from a local yard.

The court heard that on February 4, 2026, Mugadzawethu unlawfully entered the complainant’s yard in Medium Density Fort in Chegutu and stole 12 planks, a wheelbarrow, valley gutters, a hammer and one zinc sheet.

According to court proceedings, the accused was caught in the act by a witness who gave chase and apprehended him, leading to the recovery of some of the stolen property.

The total value of the stolen goods was US$190, of which items worth US$110 were recovered.

Mugadzawethu was convicted and sentenced to 24 months’ imprisonment, with two months suspended for five years on condition of good behaviour.

The court further ordered that 21 months of the sentence be served with immediate effect, while an additional three months from a previous suspended sentence were brought forward.
