A man from Highfield in Harare, who allegedly sold someone’s car, has been taken to court.

Milton Manhare, 21, appeared at the Harare Magistrates’ Courts facing theft of property allegations.

He will appear in court on July 19.

The complainant is this matter is Enock Chakanyuka.

The State alleges that on January 28, Chakanyuka was looking for a car to buy and he made it public on various social media platforms.

He was then referred to one Steven Mazinye, whom he had met at Mashwede Village Centre in High Glen.

Chakanyuka and Mazinye then called Manhare who then showed Chakanyuka a Nissan Blue Bird, which he claimed to be selling for US$2 500.

Chakanyuka then had a test drive of the car and was satisfied with its condition.

After that, Manhare took Chakanyuka to Gazaland Shopping Centre, Harare where he later made a payment of US$2 500 for the car.

Chakanyuka also gave Mazinye US$100 as a token of appreciation for linking him with Manhare.

Manhare then crafted an agreement of sale for the deal which they both signed.

The court heard that Chakanyuka was given a duplicate registration book by Manhare in the name of Emmanuel Dzenga and he left with the car.

It is alleged that after two weeks, Chakanyuka sold the car to Rudzikinuro Kanjanda, who had the car for two weeks. On February 11, the car was impounded by ZRP St Mary’s.

The police said the car was wanted by CID Vehicle Theft Squad, Harare in connection with a case of theft of trust property.

It was taken to CID VTS where it was seized before it was later indemnified to its owner Dzenga.

Kanjanda then led the detectives to Chakanyuka, who filed a report of fraud against Manhare, leading to his arrest.
