NMBZ Board Appoints Zondi, Mutewas as Independent Directors

 

NMBZ Holdings Limited and NMB Bank Limited have announced two high-level appointments to their board, bringing in seasoned leaders Zondi Kumwenda and Tinotenda Gwendoline Mutewas as Independent Non-Executive Directors. 

The appointments, effective September 17, 2025 and November 19, 2025 respectively, signal the group’s continued push to enhance governance depth and strengthen strategic oversight.

Kumwenda, a veteran Chartered Accountant with more than 30 years of experience, has held senior and executive roles across financial services, insurance, manufacturing, asset management and mining. 

He previously served as Group Chief Executive at Zimnat Holdings, having risen from Financial Director to Managing Director before assuming the top leadership role.

According to the announcement, Kumwenda is “a qualified Chartered Accountant with over 30 years of professional experience” and currently serves as an Advisory and Audit Partner at Crowe Chartered Accountants Zimbabwe. He also holds several industry leadership positions, including “President of the Engineering and Iron Steel Association of Zimbabwe and Council member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Zimbabwe.”

His academic and professional qualifications include a Bachelor of Accountancy (Honours), a Postgraduate Diploma in Applied Accountancy from the University of Zimbabwe, a Business Administration qualification from Manchester Business School, and full membership with CIMA. 

He also completed a business rescue certification with the University of Johannesburg and a leadership programme at the Wharton Business School.

Kumwenda sits on various boards, including RADAR Holdings Limited as Independent Non-Executive Chairman, and as Non-Executive Director at Allied Timbers Saligna Private Limited and Truworths.

The NMBZ Board has also appointed Tinotenda Gwendoline Mutewas, an accomplished finance executive with over 20 years of experience across Southern, East and West Africa. Her appointment is effective 19 November 2025.

Mutewas currently serves as Group Chief Financial Officer at Letshego Africa Holdings Limited. She is a Chartered Accountant and an Associate of both the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Zimbabwe and the Botswana Institute of Chartered Accountants.

Her academic qualifications include an Honours degree in Accounting Science from UNISA, an MBA from Steinbeis University in Berlin, and executive programmes completed at Stellenbosch Business School and institutions in Israel. 

She is also a founding member of the Women Chartered Accountants Network (WeCAN) under ICAZ and played a key role in setting up its Botswana chapter.

In its announcement, the Board praised her leadership credentials, stating that Mutewas brings “more than 20 years of experience in the financial services sector” and extensive exposure to continental markets.
