A 40-year-old Westgate resident, Wisborn Gatsi, appeared at the Harare Magistrates’ Court facing fraud allegations after allegedly selling a BMW 5 Series to Malevich Mwale under false pretences.
Mwale had been searching for a vehicle in October 2023 when he approached Gatsi at Gate Number 8, Corner Cleveland Road, Milton Park, Harare.
Gatsi allegedly claimed to be selling a legally registered white BMW 5 Series sedan, bearing chassis number WBA5C32070D198108 and registration number AGD 2892, for US$9,500.
Convinced, Mwale paid the full amount and took possession of the vehicle.

However, the alleged scheme unravelled in February 2025 when the vehicle was stopped by Zimbabwe Revenue Authority officials at a tollgate along the Chinhoyi–Harare highway.
The vehicle was seized and taken to ZIMRA offices for further investigations, which allegedly exposed the fraud.
Mwale subsequently reported the matter to Harare Central Police, leading to Gatsi’s arrest.
The court is yet to determine Gatsi’s fate, with Mwale still awaiting justice and the recovery of his US$9,500.
