A 50-year-old Harare man has appeared before the Harare Magistrates Court after allegedly being found in possession of suspected stolen gold and diamond jewellery in the city’s central business district.
Cliford Kagogoda (50), of Stoneridge Park in Waterfalls, is facing charges of possession of stolen property following his arrest on April 4, 2026.
According to the State, Kagogoda was allegedly attempting to sell jewellery — including two gold necklaces and a diamond ring — without a valid certificate of origin.
The court heard that detectives from the Criminal Investigations Department Minerals Flora and Fauna Unit acted on a tip-off regarding suspected illegal dealings in precious minerals and jewellery.

Prosecutors said detectives tracked Kagogoda to a white caravan omnibus parked at the corner of Orr Street and Robson Manyika Avenue in Harare’s CBD.
“Upon searching the accused person, detectives recovered two gold necklaces and a diamond ring from his possession,” the State submitted.
Kagogoda allegedly failed to provide a satisfactory explanation regarding the source or ownership of the recovered items.
“The accused could not adequately explain the origin and properties of the jewellery, raising reasonable suspicion that the items were stolen,” the court heard.
He was subsequently arrested and charged, with investigations continuing.
