Love, Lies & Bruises: Precious Maindidze Wins Court Shield Against Husband

Happier times

Harare businesswoman Precious Bayayi Maindidze was on Tuesday granted a protection order against her husband, Tawanda Maindidze, whom she accused of harassment, physical assault and verbal abuse.

The order was granted by the Harare Civil Court by Magistrate Janemary Makonye and effectively bars Tawanda from harassing, threatening, and physically or verbally abusing Precious.

In her evidence in chief, Precious Maindidze said she had endured severe emotional abuse, intimidation and physical violence.

She told the court that her husband frequently accuses her of a litany of things, including adultery, and that their situation has worsened over the course of the month.

“He emotionally and physically abuses me, calling me all sorts of names,” she said.

Precious told the court that her husband also physically assaults her whenever they have misunderstandings. She claimed that a recent confrontation left her with a swollen eye.

“He pushed me against the wall and viciously assaulted me. My eye was badly swollen and I now fear for my life,” she said.

She further stated that Tawanda Maindidze regularly threatens her and that she now fears for her life.

The court also heard that Precious sought the protection order application due to ongoing concerns that the threats and harassment would continue.

In response to Precious’s allegations, Tawanda indicated his intention to pursue a counterclaim and spoke at length about the problems in the marriage.

“I haven’t known peace for a long time. She is very dramatic and provocative,” he said.

He told the court that issues in the relationship were caused by Precious’s alleged infidelity, and said he would proceed with a counterclaim.

The court also heard allegations concerning the couple’s history, including claims that Precious was caught cheating and that she had previously left another marriage before eloping with Tawanda.

Precious also allegedly pressured her sister, Princess Bayayi, to falsely report that she was raped by Tawanda, but said the evidence later contradicted the claim and the matter was dismissed.
