The Constitution of Zimbabwe Amendment (No. 3) Bill has entered its final legislative stage after Parliament approved the proposed constitutional changes with the required two-thirds majority, leaving presidential assent as the final step before the amendments become law.
Justice, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Ziyambi Ziyambi said the Bill would now be transmitted to President Emmerson Mnangagwa for assent before being published in the Government Gazette.
"Parliament will now transmit the Constitution of Zimbabwe Amendment (No. 3) Bill to His Excellency President Mnangagwa for assent and signature. Once assented, the Bill will be gazetted and become part of the Constitution," Ziyambi said.

He said the timeline now rests with Parliament's administrative processes but indicated that the final step is unlikely to take long.
"The timing depends on how quickly the Bill is transmitted by Parliament," he said, adding that "the President normally assents to Bills promptly upon receipt."
The development follows the Bill's passage through the National Assembly after Speaker of Parliament Jacob Mudenda announced that it had secured 226 votes in favour, comfortably surpassing the two-thirds constitutional threshold required under Section 328 of the Constitution.
