Ngwazi, Baba Harare and Freeman battle for best album gong at NAMA

Sungura musician Mark Ngwazi is vying for the best album gong at the National Arts Merits Awards for 2022 with his production Nharo nezvinenharo, while Baba Harare is eyeing the same award with African Giant and Freeman with his album David and Goliath.

The NAMA will be held at the Harare International Conference Centre on February 25 running under the theme “Unlocking dreams”.

Adjudicators’ panel chairperson Hope Masike said the judges were generally impressed by the quality of work submitted by most artists.

“We are well aware of the challenges faced by most artistes particularly during Covid-19, with many failing to continue their work even up to now.

“There has, however, been impressive work inspired by global sensation as seen through resources invested, conception formulation and increased attention to detail,” she said.

The literary category had the highest entries with 277, film and television had 266, Visual and Arts, 252, Media 26 and the diaspora had 25 entries.

NAMA is the premier award given by the National Arts Council of Zimbabwe in recognition of outstanding achievements in the arts and culture in recognition of outstanding achievements in the arts and culture.

Freeman 's song Zimbabwean Queen which featured Jamaican artist Chris Martin has also been nominated for best song.
