Highlanders Football Club have shifted their pre-season base to Beitbridge as their preparations for the upcoming soccer season go a gear up.

The team announced this a day after playing a goalless draw against newcomers Sheasham in a friendly match at Ascot Stadium.

“We are off to Beitbridge for our pre-season camp,” the club announced.

The Bulawayo-based side began preparations for the 2023 season since January 16 when coach, Baltemar Brito and his assistant Antonio Torres, arrived from holiday in Portugal.

The Bosso coach preferred to have the early stages of the team’s pre-season programme in the City of Kings and Queens.

So far, Amahlolanyama have signed striker Calvin Chigonero on loan from Talen Vision, recalled goalkeeper Reward Muza, who had been sent to Bulawayo City to get game time, promoted Gillian Nyathi from Bosso90 and signed Bulawayo City captain Melikhaya Ncube.

Ncube started the game in Gweru, together with McKinnon Mushore, who is elder brother to Mason Mushore although it is not yet clear if Bosso will be registering McKinnon, who has been with the squad from the start of pre-season.

Bosso have parted ways with Nqobizitha Masuku, Adrian Silla, Bukhosi Sibanda, Toto Banda and Muziwakhe Dlamini. Defender Crispen Ncube has also been informed that he is not in Brito's plans for the season although he still has a contract with the club.

Highlanders’ season disastrous under Mandla “Lulu” Mpofu to finish fifth when Bosso engaged Brito in June, fighting for a top four finish, from which they were elbowed out by Ngezi Platinum Stars.

Highlanders supporters expect a lot from Brito at Bosso, one of the most supported sides in the country, and are hopeful of a fruitful season that can lead them to glory by winning the premiership title they last won under Methembe Ndlovu in 2006.
