Court nullifies Chitown mayor’s appointment

Kiven Mutimbanyoka

Philemon Jambaya

The High Court on Thursday ruled that the decision by local Government Minister July Moyo to appoint Kiven Mutimbanyoka as Chitungwiza Acting Mayor is null and void.

Mutimbanyoka was appointed by Moyo after Chitungwiza had gone for a long period without a mayor following the recall of Lovemore Maiko by MDC Alliance president Douglas Mwonzora.

The ruling also means that Chitungwiza will operate without a mayor until a full council meeting is held to elect one.
