Two police officers and about five suspects were last Friday severely injured following a lightning strike inside the Charge Office at Ngundu Police Station in Masvingo.

Masvingo provincial police spokesperson, Inspector Kudakwashe Dhewa confirmed the incident, saying one of the people struck is the most seriously injured.

“Seven people were struck by lightning at Ngundu and one is seriously injured and the other six are in stable condition. They were taken to Ngundu clinic for medical examination,” said Insp. Dhewa.

A mushika-shika driver who had been arrested and was in the Charge Office is the most seriously injured and could reportedly not speak after the lightning strike.

He is said to have been transferred to Masvingo Provincial Hospital.

The two police officers sustained moderate injuries and were taken treated at Ngundu Clinic.
